Tips for Pranayama in Lung Conditions


WHICH PRANAYAMAS SHOULD LUNG PATIENTS PRACTICE?


Pranayamas like Anulom vilom

( alternate nostril breathing), Bhramari (bee breath), Omkara recitation, should be regularly practised.

Pranayamas like Bhastrika & Kapalbhati are to be done under consultation



WHAT ARE CERTAIN TIPS TO REMEMBER WHILE PRACTISING PRANAYAMA?


  • Choose a quiet spot in your home to practise pranayama

  • Practise in the same spot everyday

  • Early mornings or evening are preferable times to practise

  • Avoid practising immediately after having lunch/ dinner

  • Practise under expert guidance. Wrong techniques cause more harm than help

  • Focus completely on your breath before beginning pranayama

  • Posture is important

  • Certain preparatory exercises like bandhas are beneficial

  • Practice within the limits of your breath, do not exert

  • Never begin or end pranayama abruptly

  • Keep a transition such as rubbing your palms together, moving your hands over your face before opening your eyes
